DNV is an international organisation with a large network of offices distributed all over the globe. The majority of the employees work in an office environment. Surveyors and inspectors are working outside the office performing inspections onboard ships, offshore vessels and shipyards. Certification auditors spend most of their time in the customers’ offices and sites and on travel to these locations.

Our main safety and health challenges

  • Inspections in a challenging work environment
  • Car driving
  • Travelling
  • International work environment with a huge diversity in cultures and languages

Car driving to and from customers in general and also outside regular working hours compose a safety threat. Through different initiatives like 'defensive driving courses' and 'awareness programmes' we are aiming at managing the risk.

DNV works to ensure a healthy and motivating working environment by building a company culture where we care for each individual employee's physical, mental and social well-being. To achieve this, we have implemented a SHE management system. A very important part of this is training of managers and employees. We continually carry out reporting and measurements of incidents, hazards, sick leave and workload, and use this as input for improvement.

We are currently working towards achieving compliance with the OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety) standard.

Addressing environmental challenges
DNV’s approach to safeguarding the environment is threefold;

  • a focus on a positive global impact on the environment through our services
  • continuously improving the environmental footprint of our operations. As an office-based organisation DNV has decided to focus on the following operational aspects: Energy consumption, waste handling and travelling
  • helping our employees improve their personal environmental footprint

DNV is certified to ISO 14001 by the Dutch certification body TNO.
